Reflections

1.  I enjoyed the wordle website. This will be useful for students to learn vocabulary.
2.   I am excited to try many new forms of technology in my classroom.   I plan to use stations of computers to have students practice their math skills.  Perhaps we can even do a project using technology
3.  Many of the things we were asked to do were much easier than I thought they were going to be.

Tool #11

I think many students believe that if it is on the internet, it must be true.  I think it is very important to provide students web sites that are considered reliable.    I also think it is extremely important to teach students that if they are talking with someone on the internet, they may not be really talking to who they think they are.  Just because it may be considered a kids site, a child needs to know to never give out personal information.  I too am still learning about the best and safest places to go on the internet.

Tool #10

I love having an i-phone.  At any moment I have an instant way to look up information.  It is especially helpful when traveling or looking up phone numbers or addresses.  When working with my son on his homework away from home, I still had technology to rely on in case we had questions.  I also enjoy being able to download music, and ebooks.  I actually read two books over the summer on my i-phone.

Tool #9

I think it would be fun to use Skype in my class.  Because I lived in Europe I experienced using the metric system on a daily basis.  I think students would enjoy talking to other students in Europe about how the metric system is used.  Have them explain how we used the customary system and see the responses from those in Europe.

Tool #8

Videos are great ways for students to learn.  I think they really enjoy ones that show other students learning or doing a school related activity.  I have used several you tube videos that contain raps or dances to help students remember steps to doing certain types of math problems

Tool #7

I thought the class2class website was interesting.  I like that it has projects available by subject matter.  I thnk it will take time to develop a project to share online.  I think starting in my own classroom is a good place to start where groups within the same class can collaborate their ideas. After I am more familiar with how this all works we could branch out to other math teachers or even collaborate with other subjects.

Above is the code I embedded for Poll Everywhere.  (the poll shows up at the bottom of the blog).  This would be a great website for the students to conduct polls and use the results for displaying data.  Bar graphs and circle graphs could be made with the data.  They could also make up questions that would support their data.

Google Docs is another website that could be used to create spreadsheets for polls.  This data could be used to create all kinds of graphs.

This is the code for the wordle I made.  When I embedded it, it showed up at the bottom of the page.  I don't understand how to get it in this section of the blog.  Anyway  I think the kids could use this to make word walls.



this is the link to the comic strip  I made for order of Operations.   I think the students would enjoy making comics to help them remember the process for solving types of problems such as adding and subtracting frations with unlike denominators.

Tool #4

I really liked using the Google docs.  I know some teachers have been using it already but I had not taken the time to explore what it could do.  I especially like the forms part.  I could see this as a valuable tool for short quizzes.  Also I like the fact that the documents are available to teammates.  When I have more time I will check out the rest of the apps.  I just briefly looked at them and spent most of my time in the Google docs.

Tool # 3

I like the idea of using a video as an independent station.  This would allow the students an opportunity to view the material in a different way and possibly answer questions about it.  I spent time looking through Youtube,                                    
Teachertube  and Schootube.  I like the many raps used to hellp students learn and remember math concepts.  I think 6th grade students would enjoy learning this way.  Perhaps they could even come up with their own rap in order to help them remember steps to a type of problem such as adding fractions with unlike denominators.                                                                                                                                              
                                                                                             

Tool #2

Participating in a PLN seems interesting.  I feel most comfortabe sharing wth my teammates so I think that is where I will start.  I would also like to see what other 6th grade Math teachers are doing in the district.   Seeing what my teammates had to say in their blogs was fun.  I enjoyed commenting on what they had to say.

Creating my Blog Page

I just created my Blog Page and found that it was easier than I thought.  It was a bit frustrating having to go back and listen to the videos a couple of times instead of having a paper in front of me to refer to.f  Did anyone else feel lost without a so called "paper manual" to refer to?
